Breaking: Instagram has Banned the Word "Vibe"

MENLO PARK, CA - A public relations representative from the popular application “Instagram” has confirmed Monday that the company is banning the word “vibe” and it’s variations from being used on the app starting in January 2018.

“We’ve reached our limit with the word,” the representative said. “If we’re being honest, the artistic director of instagram is tired of seeing youth post photos with “vibe” as part of the caption.”

The representative further explained that the recent direction and use of the app has gotten out of hand.

“It goes against the original intent of the app: to give creatives a place to showcase their work and allow people to connect with loved ones through photographs,” the representative explained. “The app was never meant to be used for teen and young adult’s hyper filtered selfies. They already have SnapChat for that.”

Pepperdine students, however, are less than enthusiastic about the change. Senior Julia Mills, a member of the Student Programming Board, said she was worried about the update.

“Quite a few of our campaigns for The Board activities are constructed wholly around the word ‘vibe’. I’m not sure what we’re going to do now that we have to rethink multiple publicity campaigns.”

Junior Alison McKee of Alpha Phi also said, “Heads will roll,” if Instagram followed through with the banishment of the word.

No comment has been made about “vibe’s” status on Instagram’s parent company, Facebook.
