Breaking: Pepperdine Raising Convocation Requirement from 14 to 18 Credits Per Semester

MALIBU, CA - A source close to Pepperdine’s President, Andrew K. Benton, has reported that the head of the private Southern California university has plans to raise the Seaver undergraduate convocation requirement from 14 credits to 18.

However, the administration will not be adding more convocation events to the schedule. When asked how already struggling students would meet the 18 credit requirement without the addition of new convocations, Provost Rick Mars said, “Development of the student’s spiritual journey needs to be a priority here at Pepperdine,” He added, “Also, we’re about neck and neck with Azusa Pacific when it comes to religiousness on campus. I want us to at least be tied with Westmont or Biola.”

The administration is not expecting much backlash from the student body. Historically, students have not audibly protested the institution of convocation at Pepperdine.

“Students don’t seem to have an issue with convocation here; some of them might even be glad they have a new reason to take a break from studying and get to know Jesus a little better,” Mars said.

It is currently unknown how the programs abroad will meet the new requirements, but they’ll have to get creative.

The new requirement will be enacted in the Fall of 2018.
